Live Well

Small steps to improve wellbeing

If you feel that living with HIV and Hepatitis C has impacted your ability to live as you want to, our Live Well service can support you.

Your circumstances and needs may change over time. Positive Help has a flexible person-centred approach so that the support we provide you can be adapted accordingly.

What we can do to make your life easier

We can help you thrive in your home and within your community with practical support delivered by our trained volunteer Activity Buddies, who are supported by staff. They can help you feel more connected and support you in improving quality of life.

Live Well provides 1-to-1 support through:

  • A buddy. If you require help to try new things or tackle difficult tasks at home or in the community, one of our Activity Buddies can support you.

  • Escorted grocery shopping. If you want to feel more confident when buying food, one of our volunteers can reduce any worries by helping you navigate around the shop and support you with decision making.

  • Phone calls. If you have a goal in mind that you want to work towards, but you don’t know where to start, our encouraging volunteers can support you to get started.

  • Signposting, referrals and advocacy. When you need support from other services, our staff can refer you to relevant organisations, on an individual basis, such as food banks and clothing banks. By listening to your needs, we can help ensure these are being met by advocating on your behalf.

When you receive support from this service it can help you:

  • regain a sense of connection.

  • improve your physical health, mental wellbeing and overall quality of life.

  • set and take action towards goals.

  • build a consistent and manageable routine.

  • feel more confident to try new things.

“I often ask the volunteer to help me make healthy swaps, as diet is very important with medication. I get anxious when I take too much time fussing over something, but the volunteer is there to help me make the right decisions. I prefer to do shopping in person and not online, as you can see what you're buying, and if I fancy a certain fruit, the volunteer will encourage me to get it.”
